Enrico Tommaso de Paris ( * 1960 ) creates sculptures and installations with recurring image-stereotypes that attempt to convey biotechnological breakthroughs to the non-scientifically inclined.

Laboratories, devices, machines, Petri dishes, but also computer animated graphics or DNA models are just some of the things de Paris draws from.

He constructs the most absurd devices out of metal, glass and neon tubing, which, however, recall the double helix and other molecular structures – they blink, glow, and are adorned with test tubes and phials.

Commercially available automated technology that prepares samples for microbial analyses directly from the Petri dish is rarely satisfactory.

In particular, the entire process of using mass spectrometers ( e.g. MALDI-TOF ) to rapidly identify samples and constituents and matching them with a data-base ( e.g. SARAMIS ) needs to be speeded up.

Die Probenvorbereitung mikrobieller Analysen direkt von der Petrischale ist mit handelsüblicher Automatisierungstechnologie kaum befriedigend gelöst.

Gerade die schnelle Identifizierung von Proben und Inhaltsstoffen durch Massenspektrometer, z.B. MALDI-TOF und ein Abgleich mit einer Datenbank ( z. B. SARAMIS ) verlangt nach einer weiteren Beschleunigung des Gesamtprozesses.
