It was seven o’clock. The interview was at nine and it would only take him about twenty minutes to drive into Swansea where his job interview would take place. “If I set off at eight, I’ll easily be there by 8:30. Then I can find a nice café near the office, have another coffee, and think about my answers.” He smiled at his plan. He liked to be well-prepared, it made him feel calm and relaxed. “So that means I still have an hour to practise.” Opposite the sofa where he was sitting there was a large mirror on the wall. He smiled into the mirror. Then he changed his expression to one that made him look more serious and thoughtful. “So, Mr Owen,” he said in a formal voice.

“Tell me about yourself.” Peter smiled. “Well, what can I say? I graduated in economics from Cardiff University and have since been trying to find the perfect position to suit my talents in this area. I have a passion for numbers, and I have three-years’ experience working in various roles. In my previous job I was responsible for checking accounts and making sure our data was correct. Also, I …” But suddenly Peter felt very tired and he had to stiffle a yawn. “Oh, please excuse me,” he said to his reflection in the mirror. “And would you say you’re a team-player?” he asked in his serious voice again. “Oh, yes,” he replied. “Absolutely. I have very strong communication skills. I enjoy working with other people, but I also know how to keep focused on my work.” Peter nodded. That was good. That was the kind of thing people wanted to hear. He yawned again. He still had a lot of time to kill.

He looked at the two references that he was taking with him. One was from his first boss, Mrs Smythe, the lovely old lady who had worked in the newsagent’s when he was a paper boy. He had wanted to get more references from the companies he had worked at since university, but strangely enough none of them had replied. “And can you tell me about your strengths and weaknesses, Peter?” he said in his fake interviewer’s voice again. “Well, I am reliable and very motivated.” Peter looked to his right. There was a blanket on the sofa. It couldn’t hurt to keep warm while practising, could it? He pulled the blanket over himself and kicked off his shoes. “And weaknesses?” he asked himself, as he settled his head into the sofa and his eyes slowly began to close. “None that I can think of …”

Na, vielleicht doch nicht die beste Methode, sich vorzubereiten. Dann doch lieber noch mal unser Vokabular üben und rechtzeitig den Wecker stellen. Und das Sofa besser meiden …! Wir wünschen dir viel Erfolg!
