Das Projekt, ein Private Public Partnership (PPP) Modell, besteht aus dem sechsspurigen Ausbau (plus Standspur) von 37 km bestehender, vierspuriger Autobahn und dem Betrieb und der Erhaltung von insgesamt 52 km Autobahn zwischen München und Augsburg.
Dieser rund 60 Jahre alte Abschnitt kann den derzeitigen Verkehrsstrom von mehr als 100.000 Fahrzeugen pro Tag kaum mehr fassen.
