Hugo Thimig ( 1854 – 1944 ), Hofschauspieler, Regisseur und Burgtheaterdirektor, war ein leidenschaftlicher Theatraliensammler, der in vierzig Jahren an die 120.000 Objekte zusammengetragen hatte, darunter 20.000 Druckschriften, 40.000 Autographen und 60.000 bildliche Darstellungen.
Nach und nach wurden die Bestände durch bedeutende Nachlässe hervorragender Künstler-Persönlichkeiten des Sprech-, Musik- und Puppentheaters erweitert.
Vertreten sind unter anderen der Dichter und Publizist Hermann Bahr ( 1863 – 1934 ) und seine Frau, die gefeierte Opernsängerin Anna Bahr-Mildenburg ( 1872 – 1947 ), der Komponist, Militärkapellmeister und Hofballmusikdirektor Carl Michael Ziehrer ( 1843 – 1922 ), der Hofschauspieler Josef Kainz ( 1858 – 1910 ), der Schauspieler und Theaterdirektor Hubert Marischka ( 1882 – 1959 ), der Bühnen- und Kostümbildner Caspar Neher ( 1897 – 1962 ), der Schauspieler, Regisseur und Theaterleiter Max Reinhardt ( 1873 – 1943 ), der bildender Künstler und Puppenspieler Richard Teschner ( 1879 – 1948 ) und der Burgschauspieler Albin Skoda ( 1909-1961 ).

Hugo Thimig ( 1854 – 1944 ), imperial court actor, stage director and director of the Burgtheater, was an impassioned collector of objects having to do with theatre, and within forty years he had collected around 120,000 objects including 20,000 printed publications, 40,000 autographs and 60,000 illustrations.
