Video in den neunziger Jahren bis zur Gegenwart zeichnet sich neben der Integration von Computern und der Übertragung von Videoprozessen auf digitale Rechner vor allem durch die Erweiterung des Videoeinsatzes auf multimediale Installations- und Objektkunst mit großformatigen Projektionen auf überlebensgroßen Screens aus. Insbesondere die prozessualen Videoarbeiten des Duos Granular Synthesis ( Kurt Hentschläger und Ulf Langheinrich ) bringen strukturelle Audiovisualität in abstrakt aufgelösten Formen zur Anschauung .

Granular Synthesis arbeiten vorzugsweise mit dem technischen Verfahren der Granularsynthese[11], mit dem sie aufgezeichnetes Bild- und Tonmaterial einer Analyse bis in kleinste Elemente (Grains) unterziehen, um die aus solchen geräuschhaften Informationseinheiten gewonnenen Audio- und Videosamples neu synthetisieren zu können.

Hinzu kommt, dass die neu entstehenden Frequenzen live moduliert werden, wodurch die Performance die direkte Korrespondenz von prozessualer Bild- und Tonsteuerung unterstreicht.

Dieser Eingriff mittels Granularsynthese in das audiovisuelle Material wird vom Publikum auch deshalb als gewaltsam und schmerzhaft empfunden , weil Granular Synthesis mit Model 5 die Stimme und die Porträtaufnahme der Performerin Akemi Takeya zergliedern .
