Die OULIPO, Ouvroir de littérature potentielle oder Werkstatt für potenzielle Literatur, gegründet 1960 in Frankreich von Raymond Queneau und François Le Linnais, war eine Gruppe von Schriftsteller_innen, die auf ihre Produktion strenge Formeln anwendeten.
Inspiriert von der Mathematik bzw. von einer Form der Arithmomanie, zwangen die Mitglieder von OULIPO ihrem Schreiben Regeln auf, die sie als Gerüst sahen, und in dem der Inhalt und das Thema ihrer Literatur errichtet würden.
Dieses Gerüst konnte vielerlei Formen annehmen:

This scaffolding could take a variety of forms, equations, a chess board, crosswords, lipogramms, style variations, rhyme conventions, narrative modes.
