Nach einem Forschungsaufenthalt an der Stanford University in Kalifornien, USA, verfolgte er zunächst bei NTT DOCOMOs europäischem Forschungsinstitut DOCOMO Euro-Labs bis 2012 eine Laufbahn in der Industrie und war zuletzt Leiter der Forschungsabteilung für Übertragungstechnik und Mobile Netze.

After studying electrical engineering and information technology at TUM, he obtained his PhD from the same university in 2002.
Following a period as a visiting researcher at Stanford University, California, USA, he joined NTT DOCOMO’s European Research Institute (DOCOMO Euro-Labs) where he most recently served as the head of the Wireless Communication and Networking Research Department.
