Greater transparency and sustainable economic growth can reduce the discrepancy between the wealth of natural resources in the region and the poverty of the general population and can help mobilise indigenous resources more effectively in the fight against poverty.

The CEMAC member states – Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Chad, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and the Republic of Congo – have decided to address the lack of transparency regarding payments, revenues and the manner in which funds are used in the crude oil, natural gas and mining sectors.

The jury selecting the winners of the competition, which received applications from 98 groups from 30 different countries, included Aminata Traore, Robyn Orlin, Gordana Vnuk and others.

After the competition was over, the prize-winneing companies Andreya Ouamba (Senegal), Orchy Nzaba (Congo Brazzaville) and Panaibra Gabriel (Mozambique) went on an extensive world tour.
