It provides an introduction to and overview of local experience of health and illness which is shaped by and shapes social practice.
The main part of the course deals with key concepts, e.g. illness vs. disease, health care systems, medical pluralism, health seeking, therapy management and embodiment, and reviews anthropological contributions to research in the interdisciplinary fields of urban health, mental health, women ’ s health and international health.
