Einen noch größeren Aufschwung nahm der Schlittenhundesport 1978. Bad Wiessee kam als neuer Rennort dazu, und es starteten erstmals auch Gespanne aus Österreich, Finnland und Frankreich.
Beim Endlauf in Todtmoos waren 115 Gespanne dabei, die von 13 000 Zuschauern angefeuert wurden.
