Eine kostengünstige Lösung bietet sich dagegen in Form der Wavetable-Zusatzkarten mit YamahaXG- oder Dream-Chipsatz (häufig auf Terratec-Hardware anzutreffen) mit mindestens 4MB Sample-ROM.
Findet sich auf der Soundkarte kein passender Wavetable-Anschluss, so kann man die Zusatzkarte auch in einen externen Expander umbauen wie es in MIDImal, c't 1/97, S. 328 beschrieben wird.
