On his trip through the Alps towards Chamonix, Tom stopped off in Digne les Bains, France ’s lavender capital, where he discovered a special narrow-gauge railway – the “ Train des Pignes “.

Owing to the many steep gradients and the not so powerful former steam locomotive, the train was so slow that the passengers could allegedly jump off during the journey and collect pine cones – hence the name “Train des Pignes”, or pine train.

In the Vallée du Var, for once Tom got off his bicycle and tried his skill at canyoning.

Früher war der Zug aufgrund der vielen starken Steigungen und der eher leistungsschwachen Dampflokomotive so langsam, dass die Passagiere angeblich während der Fahrt Pinienzapfen einsammeln konnten – daher der Name Pinienzapfenzug.

Im Vallée du Var versuchte sich Tom für einmal nicht auf dem Fahrrad, sondern beim Canyoning.
